BIOGRAPHY
Prof. Jun Ho Shim is a faculty member in the Department of Chemistry Education at Daegu University. He previously served in the Department of Chemistry at Daegu University from 2012 to 2023, where he advanced through the ranks to become a full professor. Prior to that, he was a Research Professor at Ewha Womans University (2009–2012), working on research projects led by Professors Youngmi Lee and Chongmok Lee. He completed postdoctoral research at the University of Texas–San Antonio (2007–2009) and the University of Tennessee–Knoxville (2006–2007). He also worked as a Senior Researcher at i-sens Inc. (2002–2006) and held research fellow positions at the University of Utah (2004–2005) and the University of Michigan (2002). He earned his B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in Chemistry from Kwangwoon University, where he completed his doctorate in 2006 under the supervision of Professors Hakhyun Nam and Geun Sig Cha. Professor Shim’s research focuses on nanomaterials and electrochemical systems for energy and environmental applications. His work spans the development of ion-selective electrodes, electrochemical sensors, and micro/nano-scale interfaces for the detection of biologically and environmentally relevant species such as glucose, nitric oxide, ammonium, and nitrate. He has also explored the design and characterization of synthetic ionophores, molecular recognition elements, and thin-film devices for selective ion sensing. In recent years, his interests have expanded to include interfacial engineering strategies and electrocatalytic systems for sustainable nitrogen and carbon conversion reactions.
